Software Engineers (Java)

FPSG's client is a well-established, large Scottish employer with offices across the Central Belt of Scotland and beyond, with these Java positions based from their central Glasgow office. These are new Java Developer openings within the team due to their ever expanding needs. This role will cover the full lifecycle of the Software Development programme from requirements capture and design through implementation, test and go live. Your Java work will be on high profile projects in a supportive environment that will reward motivated individuals to succeed.

Role responsibilities

The Software Developers (Java) role will be responsible for but not be limited to:

  • Designing systems to be deployed into both traditional as well as Cloud environments

  • Using Agile practices

  • Incorporating Automation and Continuous Delivery practices

  • Integrate key cross-product systems

  • Operate using best practices

  • Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Support the introduction of tools, techniques and platforms through a hold, assess, trial, adopt lifecycle

Key Skills

  • Experience Designing and Implementation

  • Web development experience using the following stack:

    • Java / JEE;

    • HTTP, XML and JSON;

    • SOAP or RESTful web services;

    • Linux or Mac OSX

  • Familiarity with the following: Unit Testing, version control, Continuous Integration, Coding standards, Design patterns and Refactoring.

  • Experience of working under both Waterfall and Agile methods is very useful

  • Experience with Designing services based on the Integration of Cloud is desirable but not necessary
