Holly Attends Tech Trends 2019

Holly Attends Tech Trends 2019

One of our ambitious recruitment consultants, Holly McMullen, attended the annual Tech Trends 2019 this week.  Here’s how she got on.

What is ‘Tech Trends’?

Tech Trends is an event held by ScotlandIS every year where new technology trends, developments and opinions are discussed.  ScotlandIS is the trade body for the digital technologies industry in Scotland, representing software, IT, telecommunications businesses and digital agencies.

The Event

This year’s event was held at DLA Piper’s Edinburgh office and was hosted by entrepreneur and published author, Richard Marshall.  Richard is Principal at digital advisors Concept Gap, and with his unique style he guided the audience on an informative and amusing journey into the ever-changing future.

Hot Topics

Holly thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Here are her top takes from the event:

  • Advancements in heavy lifting rocket technology: China has planted seeds on the far side of the moon.  Although the plants did not live, the potential is there as they managed to get the equipment to the dark side of the moon.
  • Chat function: Growing area, and from personal experience helpful. Important to consider brand and appearance.
  • Digital ethics:  Ever-growing hot topic. Companies need to be proactive, rather than reactive and build trust with their employees and clients.
  • Digital transformation: Select companies across Scotland are making use of technologies like drones to assist with making their work safer and more time effective.
  • Machine learning: Research projects have started where machines are teaching machines.
  • Inequality in technology: Companies need to invest in updating and moving forward.
  • Autonomous ship – World’s first zero emission vessel, YARA Birkeland, is being tested this year.
