Product Manager - Edinburgh Based Contract

12 Months initial assignment plus extensions

Assessed to be outside of scope for IR35 purposes

Excellent opportunity for a Product Manager to work on multiple Assessment Systems projects which will shape the future of how children in publically funded education are assessed in aspects of numeracy and literacy. The Product Manager will work closely with the Project Manager to progress the work of these standardised national assessments projects.

The role of Product Manager is fundamental to the effective management of the assessment system contracts and continuous improvement process across the projects. The Product Manager will play a key role in ensuring the system suppliers implement high quality testing, change management, release and service desk processes.

Duties and responsibilities of the Product Manager will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing assurance that the solution is logically and technically sound and that the requirements and subsequent commitments by suppliers, are implemented to required quality.

  • Acting as trusted adviser within the team to interpret technical requirements for a non-technical audience.

  • Liaising with Digital Directorate to determine technical Digital Scotland Service Standard requirements and ensure these are met.

  • Providing expertise on cloud hosting, software architecture and web application development to ensure that decision making leads to appropriate outcomes.

  • Liaising with Supplier to ensure that Google Analytics implementation satisfies Digital Scotland Service Standard requirements.

  • Managing internal and external resource to ensure that requirements are met from the perspectives of accessibility, usability and GDPR.

  • Liaising with system vendors and local authorities to ensure that technical requirements are met for data provision and user account management.

  • Managing resources to ensure that ongoing and new technical requirements are met, e.g. domain name registration and management, certificate procurement.

  • Overseeing procurement and management of specialist external testing expertise as appropriate: penetration testing, performance testing, system testing.

  • Monitoring and interpreting Google Analytics and other system data to provide guidance on potential service improvements.

  • Providing ongoing technical assurance throughout subtasks within the project and with specific coverage of exit plan dependencies, e.g. standards-based export of question content.

  • Supporting colleagues in wider aspects of project delivery.
