FPSG are looking for a talented lead artist with a strong knowledge of art techniques and leadership skills to join a client in Dundee. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work on an ambitious and unique new project within our rapidly expanding indie studio.
As the lead artist, you will have to be a natural leader to your fellow artists as you will be responsible for mentoring, developing and nurturing a multi-discipline art team whilst defining, tracking and scheduling tasks.

You will be a key player in shaping the artistic style of the project, and will collaborate with the production team to ensure our game is visually stunning whilst meeting key deadlines and milestones. You'll need to interpret, visualise and communicate the overall creative goals of the game in a way that inspires and excites.
To achieve this, you will need to be a self-starter with good communication and creative problem solving skills. You must have knowledge in how to manage and improve the art pipeline, a thorough understanding of 2D and 3D techniques, and most importantly, have a strong passion and drive for creating great games.

Responsibilities

Directly responsible for delivering all aspects of art production.
Delegate and assign tasks to team using Trello or other tracking tools.
Manage the performance and progress of individual team members.
Review and deliver work in accordance with the project's artistic direction and deadlines.
Collaborate, define and push the visual style of the game.
Review and implement contemporary workflows and processes, ensuring art is produced in the most efficient manner.
Balancing art quality, performance, and time.
Take a key role in defining the art style and direction.
Expected to pitch in to fill in any gaps in the art production pipeline.
Identify risks within the schedule and suggest changes
Act as a hiring manager to recruit highly skilled talent for the art team and the studio.
Manage and help recruit outsourced art production.

Skills & Requirements

At least 3 years of experience in the games industry as an artist.
Experience in the games industry as an art lead is desirable.
Experience with world building and efficiently putting together in-game environments.
Experience modelling and texturing assets using Maya, ZBrush, and Substance painter/designer.
Must have exceptional artistic ability and vision.
Expert knowledge of 3D and 2D pipelines and asset management
Knowledge of UI design for games
Overall broad knowledge of all elements of game art production, such as modelling, texturing, animation, lighting and post processing.
Demonstrable experience of leading and developing other artists.
Ability to communicate effectively in across the team.
Exceptional leadership, teamwork, planning and time management skills.
