Associate Content Designer - Public Sector - Scotland

FPSG are delighted to offer opportunities for Associate Content Designers to start out or continue their early career in Content Design, within the Public Sector here in Scotland. A great opportunity to gain experience working to Government Digital Services Standards (GDS).

The role of an Associate Content Designer:

As an Associate Content Designer you will work on the end-to-end journey of a service to help users complete their goal and government to deliver a policy intent. Your work may involve the creation of, or change to, a transaction, product or single piece of content that stretches across digital and offline channels.

You will make sure appropriate content is shown to a user in the right place and in the best format.

Content Designers are responsible for creating, updating and reviewing content around the end-to-end user journey and are comfortable using evidence, data and research.

They build relationships to focus on the needs of the user and to influence stakeholders. They contribute to and use style guides and design patterns. Main duties include:

  • Work autonomously to create and iterate content for end-to-end services that makes complex language and processes easy to understand.

  • Understand and implement as needed appropriate content styles and standards.

  • Identify, analyse, manage and monitor relationships with and between stakeholders, using evidence to explain decisions made and balancing competing priorities.

  • Work with user researchers to understand users, identifying who they are and what their needs are based on evidence.

  • Translate user needs / requirements into proposed content design approaches or services.

Main duties in this role:

  • Develop content for required business areas

  • Participate in and/or support programme and project assurance activities

  • Contribute to DDaT community such as by participating in events and reviewing processes, tools and guidance

  • Other duties as required to support wider corporate activities

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience of writing for the web, with proven ability of creating accessible user-centred content

  • Proven experience in using data and user feedback to define and refine content

  • Proven experience of managing relationships with stakeholders


An option to work as either an umbrella company contractor, or Fixed-Term Contractor (salaried) can be presented to suitable candidates.
