Attention School Leavers: Leaving school can be daunting especially if you are entering the world of work. This article will give you some good tips on how to access information to help with your job search and options for you to take your first step on the career ladder.  Be prepared to go from school leaver to career builder!

Step 1 – Consider your options

If you can choose a career that suits your interests, lifestyle and personality, you will choose a career that you enjoy. Think about what excites you and explore opportunities. Do you have friends and family who have jobs you like the sound of? Ask them about their working days and how they got into their role. Step 2 – Gain some work experience

Don’t have anything to put on a CV? Work experience is a great way to gain new skills. Gain some valuable work experience through using your own family and friend networks or volunteering with local charities. Offer to help out for a few days and get an insight into a real working environment. Employers often look for positive behaviours and this is a brilliant way to start.

Step 4 – Apply and get noticed

You are now ready to apply for jobs! Get noticed by getting your CV online with CV databases. Register for alerts on jobs boards so you can be first to apply as soon as roles a released.

Step 5 – Managing rejection

With lots of candidates applying for each role, you may receive some rejection before you land your ideal job. Try not to be disheartened. Use this as an opportunity to improve for next time. Ask for feedback. This is useful in helping you with you next application and most employers will be happy to provide it.
