FPSG attended ScotSoft 2016

Edinburgh’s EICC was buzzing on Thursday the 6th of October as the crown jewel in the Scotland IS event calendar once again exceeded expectations. A full day of techno expose, industry insight, recognition and reward for the emerging talent of the Scottish IT industry.

The Global Forum….
With business leaders from across the globe and technical leaders from our own back garden, the FPSG Technology team were willing students as they witness a master class that switched from “The potential of a Platform Business, through “Building a Global Business” and then approaching “Agile techniques” from every conceivable angle. When you throw in the insights and experiences of companies such as Cloud Foundry, Fanduel and Google, it is fair to say that EICC Pentland auditorium was an educational experience.

The Awards Dinner…..
The FPSG team were able to assimilate the afternoon teachings at a more sedate pace as the ScotlandIS awards dinner kicked off. A chance to celebrate the young software engineer of the year and experience at first hand the creativity that the next generation are already bringing to the industry locally. There was fine wine, fine dining and some serious networking, but that was just a bonus.

This year’s after dinner speaker was Olympic gold medallist, Sir Chris Hoy. An hour in his presence, listening to his stories on training and performing at the highest level on a global stage, cannot fail to excite, and maybe put into perspective what we think a “hard weeks work” is really all about. If we took away one thing from the Q&A with Sir Chris, it was the consolidated impact of marginal gains and how they can give you a competitive advantage.

Congratulations to all the winners, we can become a little complacent, maybe even ambivalent to the industry around us, however an event such as ScotSoft can help reinvigorate you and remind you that that the Scottish Technology sector has a lot to be proud of.
